The Technology and Engineering Education program offered by the University of Idaho is one of the programs offered in the Career and Technical Education section of the Curriculum and Instruction department, in the College of Education. The program is offered at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) campus. The program uses a 2+2 configuration, meaning after completing an associate degree at CSI, students can be admitted into the Technology and Engineering education program at the University of Idaho to complete their Bachelors of Science in secondary education. The program utilizes the strength and state of the art resources of both institutions, CSI and the University of Idaho, to produce Technology and Engineering education teachers that can meet the diverse needs of school districts in Idaho, the nation, and the world. The curriculum addresses the core knowledge areas of the Technological Literacy Standard with a strong focus on engineering design; STEM integration pedagogy; hands-on, project based technical activities; and engineering science. The program also has a dual focus; 6-12 and occupational. Students who desire to work at the post-secondary level or in industry/community based organization as instructors, workforce specialists, or trainers can select the proper menu of courses that will prepare them for such a career.
The University of Idaho is the state’s land-grant research university. From this distinctive origin and identity comes the commitment to enhance the scientific, economic, social, legal, and cultural assets of our state, and to develop solutions for complex problems facing society. The 2+2 program is offered using a combination of face-to-face, online, and lab-based activities at state of the art facilities at CSI.
